Is the $1000 rolling limit at PayPal Digital Gifts gone?

As you may be aware, there is supposed to be an unstated $1000 rolling limit on gift card purchases from PayPal Digital Gifts from eBay. This limit annoyingly comes into play somewhat often when you are into the gift card reselling game, as I am.

I noticed recently that the eBay checkout page had changed, and also as I was making some recent gift card purchases, I was pretty sure I had approached or gone beyond that $1000 limit without hitting any errors. Checking my list of PayPal purchases (all of these are from paypal_digital_gifts): Continue reading →

No detail is too small…

This has been floating around the internet for the past couple of days, so I figured I would share it here for those who hadn’t seen it:

One of the things I love about traveling around the Pacific, and in particular what struck me when I was in Bali two months ago, is how different (Southeast) Asian cultures can be from that of the U.S. Like paying attention to detail for details own sake. Like treating everyone — including strangers — like family. Continue reading →

(Targeted) Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Red/Silver: 1000 AAdvantage miles for adding an authorized user

Via Reddit, some people are getting targeted offers for the Barclays Aviator Red offering 1000 AAdvantage miles for adding an authorized user by December 31, 2015. There seems to be no spending requirement attached to this offer.

I personally also received an email title Earn More Miles this holiday for my Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Silver with the following:

There doesn’t seem to be any date restriction on my offer, but there’s no reason not to take advantage right away. So check your email! It’s an easy 1000 miles. Continue reading →

Is Gogo onto the free wifi trick?

After learning about the trick to get free wifi with Gogo on board a few months ago, I’ve been using WiFi happily on most of my flights, both on my iPhone as well as on my laptop  (that is pretending to be an iPhone/iPad)

On my last flight on American recently, after doing the trick 2 times, I was hit with this screen when I tried to download the Gogo app again!

I tried disconnecting and connecting again, as well as clearing my cookies and that didn’t do anything. Only by waiting for a day to pass did I seem to be able to download the app again. There doesn’t seem to be a way around this on mobile, but I did see the CAPTCHA screen flash before I saw this screen, so it may be possible to get around this screen on a laptop. I will investigate further on my next flight, but possible courses of action are: Continue reading →

80,000 offer for the Hilton HHonors Surpass!

It looks like Amex has increased the offer on the Hilton HHonors Surpass to 80,000 points after $3000 minimum spend. The annual fee of $75 is NOT waived. This offer has been higher at 85,000 points, but difference is fairly minimal, so if you’re in need of Hilton points, it’s worth jumping on this now.

Although HHonors points have been majorly devalued in the last couple years, there are some great opportunities to be had when redeeming for Category 1/2 hotels. Check out this post by Travel is Free for some ideas. Continue reading →

Great Customer Service from AA, and My First, First-class Flight!

This ones going to be a short one, and fairly atypical of me for many reasons (primary of which is that it’s short 😛 ).

For starters, I booked my first, first-class ticket!! Although I wear my never-flown-a-premium-cabin badge with pride, Bangkok and Southeast Asia have been on my bucket list, and for just 60,750 AA miles (after the 10% rebate from my Citi AAdvantage Platinum card), it was worth the splurge (for what it’s worth, I will be flying Qantas and AA business class between now and this booking, but it will still have the honor of being my first flight in the front of the plane). Back to Aegean Silver… but still Star Alliance Gold!

Back in 2013 when Aegean was still offering an extremely easy route to “lifetime” Star Alliance Gold by only earning 19,000 qualifying miles, I took advantage of this to get Aegean Gold status. It was great times with priority boarding, security, checked bags and Star Alliance lounge access, even domestically!

In September 2014, after realizing that people were heavily taking advantage of this route to gain Star Alliance Gold easily without much effort to renew the status, Aegean made it harder to obtain Gold this way, requiring 24,000 qualifying miles flown on Aegean or 48,000 qualifying miles flown on Aegean and Star Alliance partners. Furthermore, Aegean notified existing Golds that their status would actually expire at some point. All existing Gold customers would be transferred to the new Gold Tier when the program changed in November 2014. Continue reading →

This hack was made by you and me…

For my flight home for Thanksgiving, I booked an award flight on Virgin America (VX). As I had just completed the Membership Rewards 80,000 point transfer promotion, it would be my first flight as a VX Elevate Gold member. Although the benefits of Gold status aren’t the most amazing (since VX doesn’t offer complimentary F upgrades), I was able to take advantage of the free award cancellations to save $65 in points when three days before my flight the price randomly fell to $173 (the price jumped to $349 after immediately after I made my booking).
