There’s a new trick to recover lost Amex offers if you forgot to do the multi-tab / multi-browser method. I was adding the Staples $25 of $100 Amex Offer to one of my American Express cards, when I realized I forgot to open up new tabs for the rest of my cards. I went to check the other cards, and indeed, the offer wasn’t there.
I was going to resign myself to missing out on the offer on my other cards, but then I noticed a comment from reader wwllmm on Doctor of Credit’s post, saying that you could get back offers you had lost with these steps:
- Remove the cards that you forgot to open up a tab for from your online account
- Add them to a new temporary online account and check if you’ve received the offer
- Add the offer
- Remove the card from the temporary online account and add back to your original account
I tried those steps and amazingly, it worked! I was able to add the offer to 2 out of the 4 cards I forgot to open up a separate tab for. Let’s walk through that step by step.
First, with any account open, go to the Account Services tab -> Card Management. Click on Remove Card from Online Management
It will bring you to this screen, where you can whatever card you want.
Next, log out and then click Create new online account
Alternatively, just go back to Account Services and click Register a New Card. Both will bring you to the next page.
Enter your card information. If you didn’t log out, it will ask if you want to associate the card with a new account. If you are asked this, say yes.
Next, check the offers on the card. I found that the Staples offer came back! And when I removed the card from the temporary account and put it back onto my primary, I still had the offer.
So ideally, it would be best if you remembered to do the multi-tab trick every time, but sometimes even the best of us forget. With this method, you can still recover and add an offer to cards you forgot to do the multitab method for.
