FoundersCard Membership Signup Bonus of $100 Amex Gift Card –> How I’m Paying $235 for 2 Years

UPDATE: if you used our referral links, could you please let us know? Apparently the referrals are not getting automatically tracked.

Hello everyone!

I’ve been getting bombarded for over a year by FoundersCard (referral link, see end of post for details) to join their program at a lifetime rate of $295/year. That wasn’t very appealing to me at the time, since I couldn’t justify how to get more than $295/year of value from the program. My friends Kenneth and Tonei were telling me about some of the great benefits. I’m going to rank them here as well as a few thoughts: Continue reading →

Amex Offer: 7500 MR for $500 spent on hotels at Amex Travel!

Update: Many people are reporting offers for 10,000 MR after $500 spend. Share your data points in the comments!

Saw this come up on all of my Membership Rewards-earning cards in my Amex account:

Note that it can only be used for hotel bookings (Esther and I have made this mistake before), and, it excludes Fine Hotels & Resorts as well, but it’s a pretty sweet deal if you have cash bookings coming up. Continue reading →

Daily Getaways 2016: Should You Buy?

If you follow any of the major blogs, you’ll know that U.S. Travel Association’s Daily Getaways are just around the corner. Daily Getaways is an annual event offering discounted rates on a variety of travel (typically hotels/attractions) related packages. I typically write these sorts of deals off because generally speaking, if there’s something that looks like a good deal, it either carries lots of weird restrictions, is overly specific (e.g. for a place I wouldn’t go), or is likely to go unused. Redeem Membership Reward Points for 1.43 Cents for Paid Flights!

Hello from Sydney!

I just got this email from American Express offering a 30% discount on Membership Rewards redemptions for paid international flights through amextravel.com. This yields a redemption rate of 1.43 (1.0/0.7) cents per point, which is better than the rate for both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Citi Thank You Prestige (unless you redeem for AA flights, for which you’d get 1.6 cents per point). The JCPenney Amex Offer

I Have Spent More Time Inside a JCPenney This Month Than I Have My Entire Lifetime

I’m writing this post because today, I spent a total of 5 hours after work running around town chasing various deals (many were Amex Offers – Best Buy, Staples, Babies R Us, etc), and while that may sound like a lot of time, much of it was wasted at JCPenney. I want to try to save you some time the next time you’re trying to maximize one of those $X off $X coupons (the most popular one being the $10 off $10 that I seem to get in the mail at least quarterly for no apparent reason). Retail eBay Gift Card Promotions ($15 off at Safeway for buying $125 GC)

While reading about eBay’s holiday promotions, I clicked through to their holiday page and found their page listing retail eBay gift card promotions: http://www.ebay.com/rpp/retail-ebay-gift-card-promotions

Of particular interest to me is the Safeway promotion for $15 off your next Safeway shopping trip for buying a $125 eBay gift card. I do a lot of gift card buying/reselling from eBay, and I shop at Safeway, so this is a good promo for me. Continue reading →

United buy miles promotion actually goes up to 100% bonus miles

Many of you may have recently received a mailer from United titled “Reveal your mystery bonus of up to 75%, 80% or 85% more miles” for purchases of miles until December 14, 2015.

I checked my offer, and it was for 85% bonus miles. After taxes and fees, that brought the cost to 2.03 cents per mile, which was a price I was okay with, but ultimately passed on.

However, a data point from one of my friends, Josh, as well as FlyerTalk shows that the bonus actual goes up to 100% bonus miles. Continue reading →

News from around the web

Just a collection of blog posts I found interesting from this week!

Access the old version of the Amex Offers website. American Express rolled out new version of the Amex Offers website a couple of months ago, but the new interface is much less convenient to see and add all your offers at once. Fortunately, the link to the old version of the Amex Offers website is still working! H/T Miles to Memories. Continue reading →

WOW Air coming to Los Angeles and San Francisco in Summer 2016

Via Deals We Like, WOW Air is expanding their service to Los Angeles and San Francisco in Summer 2016. Currently WOW only services Boston and Baltimore in the United States, so this is a nice addition for those living in California or elsewhere on the West Coast to get cheap flights to Iceland or onward connecting flights to Europe.

Iceland, especially with WOW Air and Icelandair, has positioned itself as a convenient hub for passengers from North America to get to Europe with short connections and cheap tickets. Continue reading →
